The story begins at La Gavia, a sixteenth century estate near Mexico City. Don Fernando Castillo Saavedra is very ill and recently received a letter that reveals new information about a secret from his life in Spain. The grammatical structure of Destinos is intentionally designed to mirror the natural progression of a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum. Episodes 1–10 focus on the present tense, basic descriptions using the verbs ser and estar, and essential vocabulary for family and travel. This phase allows learners to become comfortable with the language cadence while establishing subject-verb agreement and simple sentence structures. Episodes 11–20 introduce reflexive verbs and daily routines, quickly followed by the pivotal transition into the past tenses—the Preterite and Imperfect. This stage shifts from stating facts to telling a story.
Episodes 21–52 shift toward the Future and Conditional tenses, allowing characters to discuss plans and “what if” scenarios. However, the most significant pedagogical leap occurs with the comprehensive introduction of the Subjunctive Mood. The dialogue moves beyond the indicative “reporting of reality” to express complex human elements like doubt, emotion, volition, and influence. By the end of the 52 episodes, learners have transitioned from basic introductions to managing sophisticated compound tenses and adverbial clauses, effectively moving from a novice level to an intermediate-advanced understanding of Spanish grammar.

✈️ Continue to Destination 1 EspañaThere is only one set of audio files for both the textbook and workbook/study guides. Each audio file is used for both. The textbook contains the “script” and reading that goes with the audio file. The Workbook (Manual de actividades) contains the actual blanks to be filled in while listening to the audio file.
The audio is specifically designed to “talk” you through both the textbook and workbook activities. For example, a narrator will say, “Lección uno. Comprensión. Ejercicio A…” and then provide the audio content used to respond to the workbook questions & activities.
3 May 2026:
The Q&A content needed attention. Originally (a long time ago) I included two different sets of questions from various sources. But the questions were redundant, some answers were wrong, and the number of questions was overwhelming. With a little AI help I went through every episode and combined the Q&A sets, grouped the questions, and checked the answers. It took three long, tedious days to complete. I hope you like the results.
